General Assembly
International humanitarian law establishes protections for civilians during armed conflict—but violations continue, investigations can be difficult, and accountability is often complicated by political and practical barriers. In this committee, delegates will examine how the international community can strengthen civilian protection and make existing rules more effective.
Delegates will explore challenges including humanitarian access, civilian harm in urban warfare, evidence collection, state sovereignty, jurisdiction, enforcement, and emerging technologies. They will debate the roles of governments, international courts, humanitarian organizations, and UN mechanisms in investigating violations and holding responsible actors accountable.
If you enjoy: human rights, international law, geopolitics, current events, humanitarian issues, and complex policy debates, UNHRC may be the committee for you.
