General Assembly
Radiological materials are essential to fields such as healthcare, research, and industry, but their misuse poses a serious international security threat. In this committee, delegates will address the challenge of preventing terrorist organizations and other non-state actors from acquiring radioactive materials while balancing national sovereignty, peaceful nuclear development, and access to essential medical technologies.
Delegates will explore issues including international cooperation, border security, treaty enforcement, nuclear facility protection, emerging technologies, and the security of radioactive materials in conflict zones. With differing perspectives among major powers, developing states, and regional blocs, successful delegates will need to negotiate across competing priorities and develop practical international solutions.
If you enjoy: geopolitics, international security, policy debate, negotiation, and writing detailed resolutions, DISEC may be the committee for you.
