The International Criminal Court (ICC) investigates and prosecutes individuals accused of some of the most serious international crimes, but its ability to enforce its decisions depends heavily on cooperation from states. In this committee, delegates will examine the challenges surrounding the Court’s jurisdiction, diplomatic immunity, arrest warrants, and relationships with countries that may not recognize or cooperate with the ICC.
Delegates will debate how the international community can strengthen cooperation with the Court while addressing concerns over national sovereignty, political disagreements, and the limits of international law. They will consider issues such as enforcement of arrest warrants, state compliance, sanctions, complementarity, and possible reforms to the ICC’s system.
If you enjoy: international law, diplomacy, human rights, geopolitics, legal debate, and negotiating complex international agreements, the ICC may be the committee for you.
